ABOUT "LIZAINE"

Here's the story-

In January of 2016 my mare's career ended suddenly due to a nearly fatal farm accident. Almost breaking her neck-  she suffered extreme muscle tears, gaping wounds, and permanent nerve damage leaving her unsound and retired at the young age of 14. My best friend's career may have ended suddenly, but little did I know my own career was beginning to grow. Throughout her rehabilitation I finished up my Public Policy degree at the University of Delaware. I soon realized after graduation, that like "Lizaine", my degree was not my given path. Just like that (even though I always said I never would!) I got sucked back into the horse world, this time professionally. I am so excited to share this journey with my clients, but most of all with my mare, now renamed  "Athena". Becoming an Equine Sports Massage Therapist has enabled me to offer therapies that benefit horses like her and healing hands to hard-working athletes like my new partner, Timely Fashion "Tilley".

Here's the origin-

Originally named and JC registered after her breeder's family, "Lizaine", now renamed Athena, began her career like the typical plain bay Thoroughbred. She had a few starts but racing was not her thing. She soon moved onto motherhood, producing two plain bay fillies, but they discovered her untapped talent. Cordelia Stables of Street, Maryland saw that talent, and helped start her career as a riding horse. After competing successfully through Training level and completing her first Preliminary with yours truly, this talented, fierce, and strong-willed horse faced the reality of her farm accident. My world got turned upside down and because of her, I am where I am today. I am forever indebted to her and the opportunities she has given to me.

I have chosen the name Lizaine as my business inspiration, because from the start, she has been resilient. She continues to do so as we face life head on, together. She came into this world as Lizaine, and even though she now fully embodies the name "Athena", she will always be that quirky, plain bay, Double Dipper filly from Maryland.

"Lizaine" is now happily retired in Purcellville, Virginia at Hamble Creek Farm.
